Meet Isaac Martinez, a funded trader with Funding Frontier, who shares his trading journey, strategies, risk management plan, and tips for passing the prop firm challenge.

Please introduce yourself: Who are you, your age, where you are from, and what you do for a living?
My name is Isaac Martinez. I’m 32 years old and I’m from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I currently run my own plumbing company.

How did you get introduced or start trading?
I stumbled upon trading randomly over 7 years ago while working as a dental assistant. It caught my interest, and I’ve been learning ever since.

Do you have any hobbies, and what do you enjoy outside of trading? Do you find that these hobbies, etc, benefit your trading? Please elaborate
I enjoy going to the gym and spending quality time with my wife and son. Staying active helps clear my mind and keep me disciplined.

What is your trading routine?
I mostly trade during the New York session, usually between 5–8 a.m. MST. I like to start the day early, mark up my charts, and look for clean setups within that window.

What are your goals with funded trading?
My main goal is to supplement my income while building a consistent track record with larger capital.

Do you have a trading plan in place, and do you strictly follow it? Please elaborate
Yes, I aim to take only 2–3 trades a day based on market structure and setup quality. I keep my risk between 0.5% and 2% per trade, depending on the confidence I have in the setup.

How would you describe your trading style?
I’m a scalper and intraday trader. It really depends on what the market gives me that day. Sometimes I hold a trade a bit longer, and sometimes I’m in and out quickly.

What was the most challenging obstacle in your trading journey?
Discipline, without a doubt. Over-risking and over-trading were major hurdles early on, but once I got that under control, things started to shift.

What did you find easier, the FUNDING FRONTIER Challenge or the Verification phase? Share your thoughts
I found the Verification phase to be a bit easier. By that point, I was already in a good rhythm.

How would you rate your experience with FUNDING FRONTIER?
Great.

What advice would you give to other traders attempting the FUNDING FRONTIER Challenge?
Don’t give up. Nothing worthwhile comes easy, consistency and patience are key.

Do you plan to take another FUNDING FRONTIER Challenge to manage even bigger capital?
Yes, I’m currently working toward securing another 100k account.

Describe your best trade
One of my best trades was a clean break and retest setup. Everything lined up perfectly: market structure, momentum, and risk-to-reward.

What is the number one piece of advice you would give to a new trader?
Keep backtesting and work on developing a solid edge. It might not feel natural at first, but the more time you spend studying the markets, the more patterns you’ll begin to recognize, and that’s where the real confidence comes from.

How did you first hear about FUNDING FRONTIER?
I first heard about Funding Frontier a few years ago through Raja Banks.

Can you describe your risk management plan?
I always trade with a set stop loss, usually placed above a previous high or below a previous low. On lower timeframes, I actively manage risk by adjusting if price structure shifts, for example, if higher highs or lows break against my position. This helps protect my account and keeps drawdowns small.
